INTERVIEW
Majid Mosa
Between absurdity and consciousness
Between absurdity and consciousness
Meet Majid Mosa, an artist, filmmaker, and writer drawn to the deeper and stranger sides of being human. His work explores psychological conflict, existential questions, death, and everyday struggles, often finding humor in the absurdity of thinking too much. From filmmaking and writing to photography and other forms of art, Majid follows his curiosity wherever it takes him, turning feelings, thoughts, and inner struggles into stories that people can see, feel, and connect with.
How would you introduce yourself to someone who doesn’t know you or your work?
I’m a film director and writer who writes my own work, creating stories that touch people. I like writing deep, psychologically driven human stories about psychological conflicts, but in a funny and realistic style.
Do you see yourself mainly as a filmmaker, artist, or both?
As an artist more. I work mainly across different aspects of art. I love art in general and everything around it, like literature, movies, photography, drawing, colors, and everything else.
What first got you interested in filmmaking and art?
Movies and cards. I used to do magic tricks since I was in sixth grade. After that, I started making videos — lots of videos then moved to photography for fun. After that, here we are. Life took me in this direction.
Is there a person, place, experience, or moment that changed the way you see life?
Every interaction, every thought, every inner struggle. Going to the USA to study filmmaking also got me to this point. One of the most important things I got from going abroad was learning to be open to experiencing all sorts of art forms and never underestimating anything. I remember I wanted to study Psychology, but unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance. Now, I put psychology into my writing and films.
Tell us a little about what you do and the kind of work you create. What ideas or stories are you interested in exploring?
I’m interested in deep, psychologically driven human stories about psychological conflicts, death, existential questions, and drama, all presented in a funny and realistic style.
Which piece of work represents you best?
I would say the last short film I made, Absurd Consciousness.
Why did you choose that particular work, and what does it mean to you?
Because it has the feel and look I want to share with everyone. I want to create more work that makes people feel it more. It is also the kind of thing I enjoy writing the most.
How has the way you see life shaped the way you create?
I tend to go deep into things to the point where I feel exhausted, and I laugh more when I realize how silly it is to think too much. So, the absurdity and the conflict between the two have shaped me.
Has your art changed the way you see life, or has life changed the way you make art?
I don’t know. Now I feel less heavy and less stressed. I turn feelings into something I want to watch, like a movie, or something I want to write. So, it helped me go through things much easier, I would say. But I’m always a beginner in this field, and that is the amusement.
What does “Perspective” mean to you?
Maybe it is a way of seeing, thinking, living, and talking. How to deal with struggles and people. How to feel, admire, and laugh. It is a way of making things different.
